Albert S. Benight, Ph.D. Co-Founder & President
Dr. Benight is the founder and Managing Director of Portland Bioscience, Inc. and is a Professor of Chemistry & Physics at Portland State University where he serves as the Technology & Bioscience Advisor to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Science. He previously founded and served as Chief Scientific Advisor at Tm Bioscience in Toronto.
Dr. Benight was previously Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he developed world-recognized expertise in DNA sequence dependent phenomena. He received his B.S. in Physics (1976) from Pacific University and M.S. (1978) and Ph.D. (1983) in Physics under Professor Roger Wartell at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Washington under Professor J. Michael Schurr from 1983 to 1986. Dr. Benight has authored over 60 scientific publications and is the inventor of six issued patents.
Daniel J. Fish, Ph.D. Co-Founder & Vice President for Theoretical Research
Dr. Fish received his Bachelor's (1999) and Master's degree (2000) in Mathematics from the University of Florida, and his Ph.D. in Mathematics/Systems Science under Professor Serge Preston from Portland State University in 2005. His technical expertise includes mathematical analysis of large, dynamical systems, formulation and design of physical models, algorithm development, and Mathematical Biophysics. Dr. Fish serves as Director of Theoretical Research and Development.
Greg P. Brewood, Ph.D. Vice President for Business Development
Dr. Brewood received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Kansas State University in 2000, and his M.S. (2002) and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Washington under Professor J. Michael Schurr in 2006. His technical expertise includes specialized PCR reactions, chemical and statistical thermodynamics, as well as DNA Molecular Biophysics. Dr. Brewood serves as Project Coordinator and Manager, and Director of Product Development.
Saba Alemayehu, B.S. Laboratory Manager
Ms. Alemayehu graduated from Portland State University in 2006 with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology. As laboratory manager, she coordinates scheduling of all lab personnel and oversees design and execution of experimental projects. Laboratory responsibilities include management of all technical aspects associated with differential scanning calorimetry and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy as well as sample preparations using general molecular biology techniques.
Clark F. Benight, B.S. Director of Operations
Mr. Benight received his Bachelor's degrees from the University of Oregon and Portland State University. He has served in a variety of managerial roles for several different firms in the service and construction industries. Mr. Benight handles all day-to-day operations of the company including payroll, accounting, facilities maintenance, billing, payables and receivables.
